Growth Guide

How to grow your server with BumpIt!

Bumping gets your server in front of people. This guide covers what actually drives joins — from writing a description that converts to tags and filters that put your ad in front of the right audience.

1

Write a description that converts

Your description is the first thing people read. Most servers lose potential members here.

A good description answers one question: "Why should I join this server over any other?" Be specific. Generic descriptions blend into the feed and get ignored. Aim for 150–300 characters — enough to be compelling, short enough to be read.

Do

Describe what members actually do here

Mention what makes your community different

Use a friendly, natural tone

Include a hook in the first sentence

Avoid

"We are a friendly community for everyone"

Copy-paste descriptions from other servers

Overload with emojis or all-caps

Describe your channel list instead of your community

Example

Generic: “A chill gaming server with friendly staff and lots of channels.”

Better: “A tight-knit Valorant crew that runs daily scrims, shares VODs, and actually helps you rank up. No spam, just games.”

2

Choose tags that target the right audience

Tags control who sees your bump ad. The wrong tags mean wasted bumps.

When you bump, your ad is shown to servers whose filters match your tags. Broad tags like Community alone reach almost everyone — which sounds good, but most of those servers aren't looking for what you offer. Specific tags reach fewer servers, but those servers are far more likely to convert.

Too broad

Community

Reaches almost everyone, converts almost no one

Better

Community + Gaming

Narrower reach, better match quality

Best

Gaming + Minecraft

Precise audience, highest conversion rate

Free vs Premium

Free servers can select up to 2 tags. Premium unlocks all tags — useful for servers that genuinely span multiple categories.

3

Set filters to control what you receive

Filters are the other side of tags — they decide which bump ads appear in your server.

Without filters, your bump channel shows ads from every server on the network. That might mean gaming ads in a study server, or crypto ads in an anime community. Setting filters keeps your bump channel relevant to your members — and relevant ads are more likely to get clicked.

Do

Match your filters to what your members are interested in

Pick the same tags you use for your own server

Revisit filters as your community evolves

Avoid

Leave filters empty when your community has a clear focus

Set filters to tags that don't match your members' interests

Assume empty filters is fine — it means every ad, regardless of relevance

Where to set filters

Go to your server's Dashboard → Setup → Advanced Setup, or use the Setup Wizard when setting up for the first time.

4

Bump consistently

One bump a day beats seven bumps on Sunday.

BumpIt! has a 1-hour cooldown between bumps. The more consistently you bump, the more often your ad appears across the network. Sporadic bursts are less effective than a steady rhythm — regular presence builds regular joins.

Manual bumping

Use /bump every hour. Set a reminder or assign a bump role so your team stays on it.

Scheduler (Premium)

The auto-scheduler bumps for you on a fixed 2-hour cycle — no reminders, no missed bumps, no coordination needed.

5

Stand out with Premium

Premium features are designed to increase click-through on your bump ad.

A standard bump ad is text on a plain background. Premium lets you make it yours — adding visual identity that makes your ad stop the scroll.

Custom accent color

Match your server brand. A distinct color makes your ad recognizable in a feed.

Banner image

A server banner or logo image dramatically increases visual impact compared to text-only ads.

Custom footer

Add a tagline or call to action below your description.

No bump channel needed

Bump from any channel. No need to dedicate a channel to receiving ads.

Auto-scheduler

Bumps automatically every 2 hours. Consistency without the effort.

All tags

Select as many tags as you need to reach every relevant audience.
